The TU plate is here!

March 30, 2009 – The long awaited letter from the State of Tennessee announcing the TU plate has been delivered to the county clerk’s office has been sent. Over 1,000 letters from the Department of Revenue, Taxpayer & Vehicle Services Division was postmarked March 27, 2009. You should be receiving the letter in the next couple of days announcing your TU plate and its corresponding tag number. Please check with your local county clerk’s office to be sure your plate has been received and is ready for pick up. Trout Unlimited will not receive any funds from your purchase unless you pick it up. Any unused portion of your current license tags will be prorated. I know you will be very pleased with the appearance of our TU plate. Please be sure to tell others to purchase one for fishery conservation in Tennessee!

FAQ's about TU plate delivery and availability in 2009…

1) Question: I preordered the TU plate, when will I be notified the plate is ready for pickup?

Answer: The first 1,010 individuals who pre-ordered the TU plate should receive notification their plate is ready for pickup by mail from their county clerk’s office in late January or early February 2009.

2) Question: I preordered the plate, but have sold or traded my vehicle and received a different license plate number than I submitted. Will I get the TU plate?

Answer: Yes, if your address has not changed, you will still receive notification your plate is ready for pick up as above. Simply bring in your current plate and registration to the clerks office to pick up your plate. The time remaining on your license will be prorated.

3) Question: I didn’t preorder the TU plate, but want to buy one soon. When will it be available to the general public for purchase?

Answer: As soon as the first 1,000 TU plates are distributed, county clerk offices throughout the state will have the TU plate available for immediate purchase statewide.

4) Question: Why did the prefix change from TU to BT before the numerical sequence? Answer: The prefix TU was taken by a specialty plate of another non-profit organization during the 15 months it took us to complete our 1,000 TU specialty plate sales. We chose BT for Brook Trout since TR was also taken. Question: How were the numbers on the TU plate assigned? Can I personalize it?

Answer: Orders for the first 1,000 TU plates were time/date stamped when placed. The plate number is based on when the application was placed or received into the database. Further personalization of the TU specialty plate will be available as soon as the plate is received by the registered owner in accordance with restrictions of the DMV.

Please Note: if you ordered the TU specialty plate, funds will not be forthcoming to Trout Unlimited from the State of Tennessee unless you pick up the plate at the county clerk’s office.

Thanks to all those whose dedication and hard work have made Tennessee Trout Day (November 13, 2008) possible in Tennessee! Trout Unlimited thanks you!
